How Long Does It Take to Charge an Electric Vehicle?

Electric Car Charger

If you’re looking for a new vehicle that’s electric in Moline, you’ve probably got plugs and ports on your mind. However, with three charging adapters available for most EVs, you won’t be locked into just one charging method. How long does it take to charge an electric car? The electric car charging time varies based on which of the three options you choose for your charging needs. We here at the Green Family Chevrolet service center are about to tell you all about all three! Ready to buy an EV after reading? We can even value your trade if it’s time to upgrade!

What Are the Three Charging Types?

Level 1 (110/120 volts)

How long does it take to charge an electric car? If you go with a level 1 charging system, you’ll have the slowest charge time in Moline but you won’t need to install any additional electric infrastructure. If you go with this method, you’ll get about 4-5 miles per hour when you charge with a 110 volt outlet, meaning for the average driver, an overnight charge will give you about a day or so of charge.

Level 2 (240 volts)

If you decide to get a level 2 charger, you’ll have to have an electrician come by and install a 240-volt charger in your garage. This expense is definitely worth it if you’re a higher-mileage Rock Island driver because it’ll allow you to get a full charge (or if not, very close to it) when you leave it plugged in overnight. This is great if you drive a lot and don’t want to head over to a public electric charging station frequently. However, this electric car charging time is not the fastest.

Level 3 (AKA DC Fast Charger)

This electric car charging time blows the other two charging styles out of the water with regard to charging time, but it’s only available by going to a public charging station. You can get a full charge in about 90 minutes when you go with this method and with normal driving habits, you’ll get seven to ten days of charge at a time. If you’re on a road trip, you can sit back, watch a movie, and be ready for the road ahead.
